Small folding and commuter e-bikes with 250W–350W hub motors use compact 15A controllers that tuck into a frame cavity or under the rack. The dual-mode versions can run with or without hall sensors, which makes them forgiving when a hall wire has failed. Many budget bikes use a controller like this paired with a simple LED or LCD, so the catch is always the display protocol and the connector set. Buy one when your bike's original is out of stock, and be prepared to swap the display and throttle to matching parts if the protocol is unknown.

48V 1000W 35A Brushless Controller (generic)

The bare-bones 48V 1000W controller with a bundle of labeled leads is the universal patient in the generic direct-drive conversion world. It is a square wave controller, so it hums a little under load, but it is cheap, tolerant, and its wiring is well documented on forums. Most include throttle, brake, PAS, hall and phase leads plus a three-speed or cruise lead. It is the right purchase when the original controller on a generic kit fails and you just need the bike moving again. It is the wrong purchase if you expect it to drive a branded display.

E-Bike Battery Chargers

48V 3A Faster E-Bike Charger, 3-Pin XLR Plug (generic)

If your 48V pack has a 3-pin XLR charge port and you want to cut charging time, a 3A unit is the sensible upgrade over the stock 2A brick. It is still a slow rate in absolute terms, so it is easy on the cells, but it trims a couple of hours off a 15–20Ah pack. As with any generic charger, buy by the spec sheet: 54.6V output, 3A, XLR plug, correct pin-out. Make sure your battery's BMS is rated for at least 3A charge current (nearly all are) and that the original charger was also XLR, not a barrel.

Best for: 48V packs with an XLR port and 15Ah or more capacity · Commuters who charge twice a day · A faster spare when the stock 2A brick is too slow

52V 20Ah Hailong Downtube Battery (generic)

A 52V 20Ah pack is what people buy when they want more range and a little more punch from a bike or conversion kit that can tolerate it. The 52V nominal (58.8V full) is a drop-in for many 48V controllers whose capacitors are rated for it, but not all, so this is an upgrade that requires confirmation. At 20Ah the pack is long and heavy, usually in the taller Hailong-3, DK or Jumbo Shark style case, which will not fit every frame triangle. Measure your downtube clearance before you order and expect to also buy a 52V charger.

E-Bike Battery Chargers

52V 2A E-Bike Charger, 3-Pin XLR Plug (generic)

A 52V pack needs a 58.8V charger, and the 3-pin XLR plug is the most common fitting on the 52V Hailong and rack packs sold to kit builders. Mixing this up with a 48V charger is a classic mistake: a 54.6V charger will leave a 52V pack permanently under-charged, while a 58.8V charger on a 48V pack is dangerous. This generic 2A unit is the slow-and-steady option; heavier packs may benefit from a 3A or 5A unit if the BMS allows it. Confirm the XLR pin assignment matches your battery before the first plug-in.

Pedal Assist Sensors

8-Magnet Split-Ring PAS Sensor (generic)

The split-ring cadence sensor exists for one reason: it clips around the crank spindle without pulling the crank arm off, so it is the easy-install option for riders without a crank puller. The magnet disc splits in two and screws back together, and the sensor mounts on a bracket against the bottom bracket shell. With 8 magnets the response is a touch slower than a 12-magnet disc, but for neighborhood riding you will rarely notice. It is a solid fix for a broken PAS disc when you want the job done in fifteen minutes.

Handlebars & Stems

Adjustable Angle Stem, 1-1/8 Threadless, 31.8 mm Clamp (generic)

An adjustable stem is the quickest way to raise the bars and sit more upright, which is what most e-bike riders with wrist or neck discomfort want. These alloy stems clamp a 1-1/8 inch threadless steerer and a 31.8 mm bar (25.4 mm versions exist), and a single bolt lets you set the angle anywhere from flat to near vertical. They are heavier and slightly flexier than a fixed stem and the angle bolt must be torqued properly. Check your steerer diameter and bar clamp size before ordering; folding bikes often have a proprietary stem that these do not replace.

Aluminum Folding Pedals, 9/16-Inch (generic)

Folding e-bikes come with folding pedals so the bike fits in a trunk, and the stock ones are usually small plastic units that flex and wear. The generic aluminum folding pedal is a clear upgrade: a larger platform, a positive latch, and sealed or at least serviceable bearings. Many brands sell what is essentially the same pedal. Check the thread size on your crank: most adult folders use 9/16-inch, but some budget bikes use 1/2-inch. The fold mechanism adds weight and a bit of play compared with fixed pedals, so do not expect mountain-bike stiffness.

Amass XT60 Connectors, 5 Pairs

The XT60 is the standard battery-to-controller plug on a huge number of kit bikes and budget e-bikes, and Amass is the original manufacturer whose yellow plugs the clones copy. Genuine Amass connectors have tighter tolerances and better gold plating, which matters on a connection carrying 20–30 amps. A pack of five pairs gives you spares for a battery swap, a controller change, or a repair after a melted plug. Soldering is required; use a hot iron, heavy wire and heat shrink, and if you are not comfortable soldering high-current leads, have a professional do it.

Anderson Powerpole 45A Connectors (Housings and Contacts)

Anderson Powerpoles are the modular red-and-black connectors used on many higher-end kit batteries and on the discharge leads of some production e-bikes. The 45A contacts suit 10–12 gauge wire and the housings snap together into a keyed pair. They are crimped rather than soldered, which some builders prefer, but they need the proper crimper to be reliable; a poorly crimped Powerpole is a heat source. Buy genuine Anderson housings and contacts — the clones fit poorly and the contacts lose spring tension under vibration.

Bafang BBSHD 48V/52V 1000W Mid-Drive Conversion Kit

The BBSHD is the BBS02's bigger sibling: a 1000W nominal mid-drive with a beefier case, a 30A controller, and a reputation for taking abuse that the BBS02 would not survive. It is the pick for heavy riders, cargo hauls, steep terrain, and fat-bike conversions, and it is happy on 52V packs. The trade-offs are weight, a wider Q-factor at the pedals, and more chain wear than any hub motor. Like the BBS02, it ships as a kit without a battery and needs a threaded bottom bracket shell in the matching width.

Bafang sells it in UART and CAN versions that look the same and are not interchangeable, so the first job is to know which protocol your motor uses (BBS02/BBSHD kit motors are typically UART). It is built for upright riding; if you lean forward or pedal hard, you will want something narrower. It is a cheap experiment that fixes a lot of complaints about short rides.

The tread is a medium-knob all-rounder: it handles hardpack, sand and snow acceptably and hums a bit on pavement, which is the normal deal with fat tires. Wire-bead versions are the common, inexpensive ones; folding versions exist at a higher price. If you spend most of your time on the road, a smoother fat tire will roll easier, but for mixed use the BFT is a sensible default.

It is a thread-on 7-speed unit with a nickel finish and is a direct swap for the Shimano TZ-series on most bikes. Heavy-Duty Adjustable Side Kickstand, 24–29-Inch (generic)

The stock side stand on many e-bikes is too weak for a 60–75 pound bike and folds under on soft ground. A heavy-duty alloy side stand with an adjustable-length leg and a wide foot is the common upgrade. Most mount through the standard chainstay plate behind the bottom bracket; some bikes have a dedicated rear-mount plate at the dropout, so check yours before ordering. Brake Levers

Wiring Harnesses

Julet 1T4 Main Wiring Harness (Display, Throttle, 2x Brake) (generic)

The 1T4 harness is the backbone of most Julet-connector kit bikes: one multi-pin plug into the controller splits into a 5-pin display lead, a 3-pin throttle lead and two 2-pin brake-sensor leads, all waterproof. When a connector corrodes or a lead gets crushed, replacing the whole harness is faster than repairing one branch. The trap is that 1T4 harnesses come in several pin counts at the controller end and with different lead lengths, so match the controller-side plug and count the pins before ordering. Take a photo of your old harness's plugs for comparison.

Wiring Harnesses

Julet 5-Pin Display Extension Cable, 30–60 cm (generic)

Raising the bars, fitting a longer stem or moving a display often leaves the cable an inch too short, and the Julet 5-pin extension is the fix. It is a male-to-female waterproof lead in the same keyed format as the display connector on most KT, Lishui and generic controllers. Lengths from 30 to 100 cm are sold; buy the shortest one that reaches so you are not stuffing loops of cable behind the head tube. The same 5-pin format is used by some throttles and lights, so double-check what the lead on your bike is actually feeding before you order.

Connectors & Plugs

Julet Waterproof Connector Set, 2/3/4/5/6-Pin Pigtails (generic)

Julet (and the near-identical Higo) round waterproof connectors are the signal plugs used across kit bikes for throttles, brake sensors, PAS, displays and lights. A pigtail set gives you male and female leads with short wire tails in the common pin counts, so you can re-terminate a component that came with bare wires or splice in a matching plug after a connector breaks. They are not crimp-it-yourself connectors; you solder or crimp the wire tails to your component, then heat-shrink. Match the pin count and gender to the plug on the other side.
