Replacement Screens

Screens and protective covers for common display models.

A cracked or scratched display is one of the most common cosmetic problems on an e-bike, and it often comes with a practical one: water gets behind a cracked lens and the display fogs or fails. For some popular display models, the outer lens or the LCD module is sold separately; for many others, the display is a sealed unit and the realistic fix is a complete replacement display. Knowing which situation you are in saves money. A display that still works but is hard to read is worth fixing before it becomes a display that does not work.

Start with the display model number, printed on the back of the housing or inside the battery cover. Search that model for screen or lens parts. If you find a bare LCD module or a lens kit for it, the job involves opening the housing, which usually means splitting glued seams, cleaning old adhesive and resealing. It is doable on a workbench but not foolproof. If nothing exists for your model, the whole display is the part to buy, and that must match your controller protocol. Be realistic about the risk: a botched reseal lets water in, so if the display is expensive or hard to source, a cover over a scratched lens may be the better compromise.

Prevention is the better buy: a silicone cover or screen protector sized to your display model costs little and takes the hit from tip-overs and the fade from sun. Confirm the model fit on your bike before ordering any screen part. If you bought a used bike, check the display model before anything else, since prior owners may have swapped it for something that is no longer made.

Screen Protector Film for KT-LCD3 / LCD8H Displays (generic)

E-bike displays live in the worst spot on the bike for scratches and sun, and the plastic lens on budget displays scuffs and hazes quickly. A cut-to-size film or tempered protector keeps the lens readable and is cheap insurance. Sellers list pre-cut protectors for the common KT displays (LCD3, LCD8H) and for several Bafang screens; for anything else, a generic cut-to-fit phone film works just as well. Clean the lens with alcohol, apply in a dust-free room, and squeegee out the bubbles. Replace when it yellows.

Best for: KT-LCD3 and LCD8H owners · Bikes parked in the sun · Anyone whose display lens is already scuffed and wants to stop further damage

Silicone Protective Cover for Bafang 500C / 850C Displays (generic)

Bafang's 500C and 850C color displays are popular on mid-drive kits and a number of production e-bikes, and both have an exposed plastic face that scratches easily and bakes in the sun. A molded silicone sleeve wraps the display body, leaves the screen and buttons accessible, and adds a bit of bump and rain protection. It is a ten-second install. These covers are display-specific, so buy the one for your exact model; the 500C and 850C are different shapes. It will not stop a direct hit, but it stops the daily scuffing.

Best for: Bafang 500C and 850C display owners · Bikes locked outside or carried on car racks · Riders who want a cheap bit of weather protection

How to choose replacement screens

Exact display model

Screen and lens parts are model-specific. Identify the model from the housing and match it precisely.

Lens versus LCD module

A lens replaces the outer window only; an LCD module replaces the display panel. Determine which is damaged.

Adhesive and seals

Kits that include fresh adhesive gaskets make resealing far more likely to succeed.

Protective cover fit

Silicone covers and films are sold by display model; a universal film can be trimmed but covers must fit.

Compatibility notes

  • Screen and lens parts fit only the exact display model they are made for; confirm on your display housing.
  • If you end up replacing the whole display, it must match your controller protocol; see the displays category.

Installation considerations

  • Remove the battery and disconnect the display before opening it.
  • Warm the housing gently to soften adhesive, pry carefully, and clean old adhesive before fitting the new lens or panel.
  • Reseal fully and check for fogging after the first humid ride.

Maintenance tips

  • Use a cover or film from day one if the bike lives outdoors or in a sunny spot.
  • Wipe the lens with a soft cloth; abrasive cleaners haze plastic lenses.
  • Park out of direct sun when possible to slow LCD fading.

Frequently asked questions

Can I replace just the glass on my e-bike display?

Only if a lens or LCD part exists for your exact display model. Many displays are sealed units where the whole display is the replaceable part.

How do I find my display model?

Check the back of the housing or under the button cover for a model number, or look it up in your bike's manual or the maker's parts list.

Is a cracked screen a problem beyond looks?

Yes; water gets behind the lens and corrodes the board or fogs the display. Cover it or fix it before the wet season.

Will a screen protector fit my display?

Model-specific films fit best; universal films can be trimmed. Silicone covers must match the model shape.
