Quad Lock Out Front Bike Mount

Quad Lock's twist-lock system is the standard most other mounts are measured against, and the Out Front version places the phone ahead of the stem where it sits level and easy to read. You need a Quad Lock case or universal adapter for your phone, which is the main catch and the main strength: the lock is positive, vibration-tolerant, and does not rely on clamps that loosen over potholes. For e-bikes with heavy vibration or fat tires, add the optional vibration dampener to protect camera stabilization hardware. The arm clamps 31.8 mm or 35 mm bars depending on the version.

In a Frisco July the difference between a plain bottle and an insulated one is whether the water is drinkable after twenty minutes. The Podium Chill is a double-wall squeeze bottle with a self-sealing jet valve that does not leak in a bag and opens when you squeeze. It fits standard cages, though the insulated version is a bit stiffer to squeeze than the plain Podium. It is dishwasher safe. It is one of the more common bottles you will see on e-bikes precisely because it is simple, cheap and keeps drinks cool for about as long as a neighborhood ride lasts.

The Register is the helmet we point people to when they want real rotational protection and do not want to think about sizing. Giro ships it in a single universal adult size with a wide-range dial, adds MIPS, and keeps the price near the bottom of the MIPS market. Ventilation is generous for the money, the visor snaps off, and replacement pads are easy to find. It is a recreational lid rather than a commuter-specific design, so there is no light mount or vent shutter. For neighborhood loops, campus rides and casual weekend miles it is hard to beat on value.

Phone Mounts

Lamicall Bike Phone Holder (clamp style)

Lamicall's clamp-style holder represents the large category of universal mounts that grip the phone with spring-loaded arms and need no special case. It is the easy, cheap answer for riders who do not want to commit to an ecosystem, and for loaner bikes, kids' bikes or a second e-bike. The phone can rotate to landscape and the clamp fits most bars. The honest downside of every clamp mount is the same: vibration from fat tires and rough pavement can loosen the grip over time, and the arms cover part of the screen edges. Gloves

Pearl Izumi Elite Gel Gloves

Hand numbness is a common complaint on e-bikes because upright riders put steady pressure on the same spot of the palm. The Elite Gel is a half-finger summer glove with gel pads placed over the ulnar nerve area, a wicking back, and a pull-tab to get them off. It is cooler than a full-finger glove and the padding takes the sting out of chip-seal roads and trail vibration. The gel is moderate rather than thick, which most riders prefer. It runs true to size. It will not protect fingertips in a crash the way a full-finger glove does.
