Aventon Ramblas Electric Mountain Bike

The Ramblas is Aventon's first mid-drive bike and its first real trail bike. It is a hardtail with 29-inch wheels, an air fork and Aventon's own mid-drive motor paired with a 708Wh battery. It is Class 1 (pedal assist only, no throttle), which is what most singletrack trail systems require. Compared with hub-motor fat bikes it climbs technical terrain far better and handles like a real mountain bike. It is heavier and less refined than a Bosch- or Shimano-equipped eMTB from a bike shop, but it costs a good deal less and still gets dealer support.

Heybike Cityrun Cruiser E-Bike

The Cityrun is a step-through cruiser with 26-inch wheels, a 500W motor and a 48V battery, plus hydraulic brakes, fenders and a rear rack. The geometry is upright and relaxed with a suspension fork, which suits neighborhood loops and boardwalk-style riding. It is a clear step up from 36V budget cruisers in power and braking, while staying well below the price of Aventon's equivalent. The trade-offs are typical of direct-to-consumer Heybike bikes: good spec for the money, but you are your own mechanic unless a local shop agrees to work on it.

Nakto Camel Cruiser E-Bike

The Nakto Camel is a budget step-through cruiser with 26-inch wheels, a 250W rear hub motor, a 36V battery and a front basket and rear rack included. It is one of the cheapest complete cruisers you can buy and it suits exactly what it looks like: slow, upright, flat-ground neighborhood riding and trips to the store. Power is low, so hills and headwinds are a struggle, and the brakes and components are entry-level. It is popular with older riders and anyone who wants an easy-mount bike for short distances without spending much. Keep expectations in line with the price.

Tern HSD P9 Compact Utility E-Bike

The HSD is Tern's smaller utility bike: a short-wheelbase 20-inch bike with a Bosch mid-drive that still carries a child seat or a big load on its rear rack, folds its bars and stands upright for storage in a hallway or elevator. It fits riders from about 4'11" to 6'5" through a telescoping post and adjustable stem. It is the answer for city dwellers who need cargo capability but cannot store a longtail. It is dealer-sold and priced as a premium bike, and it is heavier than its size suggests. If space is your constraint and budget is not, it is hard to beat.

Electric Mountain Bikes

Velotric Summit 1 Electric Mountain Bike

The Summit 1 is a hub-motor hardtail aimed at riders who want a trail-capable bike with a throttle. It uses a 750W rear hub, a 48V battery and a real suspension fork on 27.5-inch wheels, with hydraulic brakes. Hub motors do not climb technical terrain the way a mid-drive does, and the bike is heavy, but for fire roads, flow trails and rough multi-use paths it is a lot of bike for the money. It is a better fit for riders who mix pavement and dirt than for dedicated singletrack riders.
