Giant Explore E+ 2 Hybrid E-Bike

The Explore E+ 2 is Giant's do-everything trekking hybrid: a SyncDrive mid-drive motor, an integrated EnergyPak battery, a suspension fork, hydraulic brakes, fenders, rack and lights, and wide tires that handle gravel paths as well as pavement. It comes in step-over and step-through frames in several sizes, and Giant's dealer network is one of the largest in the country. It is a Class 1 or Class 3 bike depending on model year and market, with no throttle. Like the other dealer bikes here, it is not an Amazon purchase; it is the benchmark a lot of direct-to-consumer hybrids are chasing.

Best for: Mixed pavement and gravel riding · Riders who want a large dealer network · Proper sizing and fit

Step-Over E-Bikes

Ride1Up Turris Step-Over E-Bike

The Turris is a relaxed hybrid with 27.5x2.4 tires, a 750W rear hub motor, a 48V battery, hydraulic brakes and a suspension fork, sold in step-over (XR) and step-through (ST) frames. The wider tires and upright position make it more comfortable on broken pavement and gravel than the 700 Series, while costing less. It lacks the 700's fenders and rack out of the box and uses a cadence sensor. It is a good fit for riders who want a confident, stable commuter and neighborhood bike with room for light trails, and who prefer a traditional high-top-tube frame.

Best for: Mixed pavement and gravel · Riders who prefer a step-over frame · Comfort-oriented commuting

Long Range E-Bikes

Segway Xafari All-Terrain E-Bike

The Xafari is Segway's all-terrain e-bike and its headline feature is range: a 936Wh battery, well above the 672 to 720Wh packs on most rivals. It pairs that with a 750W rear hub, 26x3 tires, a suspension fork and seatpost, hydraulic brakes, a torque sensor and app features like GPS tracking and alarm. It is a big, heavy, comfortable bike for long rides on mixed surfaces. Segway is new to e-bikes, so long-term parts supply is less proven than Rad or Aventon, and the weight is real. If range and comfort are your first two priorities it belongs on the shortlist.

Best for: Long rides between charges · Mixed pavement and gravel · Riders who want app features and theft alarms
