Lekkie Bling Ring 42T Chainring for Bafang BBS02/BBSHD

The stock Bafang chainring sits far outboard, which gives many BBS02 and BBSHD builds a poor chainline and extra chain wear. Lekkie's Bling Ring is the popular fix: a machined aluminum narrow-wide chainring that moves the teeth inboard to improve chainline and holds the chain better off-road. It comes in several tooth counts; 42T is a common all-round choice that lowers gearing a bit from the stock 46T for better climbing. Make sure you buy the version for your motor — BBS02 and BBSHD use different spiders.

Key considerations

  • BBS02 and BBSHD versions are different — order the one that matches your motor
  • Narrow-wide teeth need a chain in good condition to shift cleanly
  • Smaller tooth counts reduce top speed slightly
  • Check chainstay clearance on fat bikes and small frames

Pros

  • Better chainline, less chain drop
  • Durable machined aluminum
  • Several tooth counts

Considerations

  • Premium price
  • Motor-specific versions
  • Minor gearing change

Bafang BBS02B 48V 750W Mid-Drive Conversion Kit

The BBS02B is the mid-drive kit that turned thousands of ordinary bikes into e-bikes. It replaces the bottom bracket with a motor unit that drives the chainring, so it uses your gears and climbs far better than a hub motor of the same wattage. Kits bundle the motor, a chainring, cranks, display, throttle, brake sensors or cutoff levers, and a speed sensor; the battery is sold separately. Installation is a weekend job with a few special tools. It is not quiet under hard load and it is hard on chains, but it is the most proven budget mid-drive there is.

Best for: Converting a rigid or hardtail bike with a standard 68–73 mm threaded bottom bracket · Hilly commutes where a hub motor struggles · Riders who want gear-assisted climbing rather than raw throttle power

Bafang BBSHD 48V/52V 1000W Mid-Drive Conversion Kit

The BBSHD is the BBS02's bigger sibling: a 1000W nominal mid-drive with a beefier case, a 30A controller, and a reputation for taking abuse that the BBS02 would not survive. It is the pick for heavy riders, cargo hauls, steep terrain, and fat-bike conversions, and it is happy on 52V packs. The trade-offs are weight, a wider Q-factor at the pedals, and more chain wear than any hub motor. Like the BBS02, it ships as a kit without a battery and needs a threaded bottom bracket shell in the matching width.

Best for: Heavy riders and cargo conversions · Fat bikes (100/120 mm shell versions) and steep hills · Riders who want more headroom than a BBS02B

KMC e8 E-Bike Chain (8-Speed)

KMC's e-series chains are built for the extra torque a mid-drive motor puts through the drivetrain, with thicker, stronger plates and pins than a standard chain of the same speed. The e8 is the 8-speed version and also works on most 7-speed systems with 7-speed cog spacing. If you have a Bafang BBS02, BBSHD or a production mid-drive bike (Bosch, Shimano STEPS, Bafang M-series) with an 8-speed cassette, this is the chain to buy when the old one measures worn. It will not make a hub-motor bike faster, but it will not hurt either.

Best for: Mid-drive e-bikes with 8-speed cassettes · BBS02/BBSHD conversions · Heavy riders who break standard chains
