Spokes & Nipples

13 Gauge Stainless Spokes with Nipples for Hub Motors, 36 Pack (generic)

Hub-motor wheels are laced with short, thick spokes — 13 gauge (2.3 mm) is the usual — because the big flange sits close to the rim and the wheel carries far more load than a normal bike wheel. When a spoke snaps, ordinary 14 gauge spokes from a bike shop are the wrong diameter for the motor flange holes and nipples. Generic 13g spoke packs come in several lengths; measuring an existing spoke from elbow to end is the only reliable way to order. A pack of 36 lets you replace one or re-lace the whole wheel.

Key considerations

  • Measure an existing spoke length precisely — motor wheels use very specific lengths
  • Confirm 13g matches your flange holes; some motors use 12g or 14g
  • Use a 13g-compatible spoke wrench
  • Fix one broken spoke soon; the neighbors follow quickly

Pros

  • Correct gauge for most hub motors
  • Stainless steel
  • Economical pack

Considerations

  • Length must be measured exactly
  • Generic consistency varies
  • Nipples may need matching wrench size

Compatibility notes

  • Hub motors with 13 gauge flange drilling — confirm by measuring an existing spoke's diameter and length

Park Tool SW-7.2 Triple Spoke Wrench

A spoke wrench is the one tool that makes the difference between a wobbly wheel you ride around on and one you fix in the garage. Park Tool's SW-7.2 covers three common nipple sizes in a single hardened tool, which matters on e-bikes because hub-motor wheels often use larger nipples than the rest of the bike. It is not a precision truing stand, but combined with a zip tie on the fork as a gauge, it will get a rubbing wheel straight again. The three-in-one format is the right one to own if you only own one.

Best for: Truing a rubbing wheel at home · Tightening loose spokes on a new hub-motor wheel · Riders who want one wrench for several bikes

Ebikeling 48V 1200W Direct-Drive Rear Wheel Conversion Kit

Ebikeling is one of the few hub-kit brands with a US base and actual customer support, which is why its 48V 1200W direct-drive rear kit shows up so often in forum recommendations. The wheel comes pre-laced in 26, 27.5, 28/700c or 29-inch sizes with the controller, LCD, throttle, PAS sensor and cut-off levers. Direct-drive motors are quiet and durable but heavy, and they have a little magnetic drag when pedaling unpowered. This is a good flat-land commuter kit; for steep climbs a geared hub or mid-drive is smarter.

Best for: Flat to rolling commutes where quiet and durability matter · First-time converters who want a complete kit with support · Steel or aluminum frames with 135 mm rear dropouts
