Lumos Ultra Smart Helmet

Lumos put a bright front light, a wraparound rear light, and optional turn signals into a helmet that looks surprisingly normal. The Ultra is the mainstream model: lighter and better vented than the original Kickstart, with a wireless handlebar remote for signals and brake lights that react to the helmet's motion. The lights do not replace a proper handlebar headlight for seeing the road, but they put visibility at driver eye level. MIPS is available on some variants. Battery life is measured in hours, not days, so it becomes one more thing to plug in alongside the bike.

Specialized Mode Helmet (NTA 8776 e-bike rated)

The Mode is one of the few helmets sold in the US that carries the Dutch NTA 8776 speed-pedelec rating on top of CPSC, which means it was tested at higher impact speeds and with more coverage around the temples and the back of the head. That makes it a sensible pick for Class 3 commuters who regularly ride at 25–28 mph. It uses MIPS, has an integrated rear light, and the styling is clean enough to wear around town. Ventilation is moderate. Specialized sells primarily through its dealers and website, so Amazon stock may be limited or third-party.

Best for: Class 3 commuters · Riders who want the highest available certification · Night riders who want a built-in taillight

Thousand Heritage 2.0 Helmet

Thousand built the Heritage for people who skipped helmets because they hated how they looked. The 2.0 keeps the retro moto shape, adds a magnetic buckle you can close with one gloved hand, a pop-out lock hole so you can thread a U-lock through the helmet, and a dial fit. It is a low-vent design, so it runs warmer than sport helmets in Frisco heat, and it carries the standard CPSC certification rather than an e-bike-specific rating. Most owners buy it because it is the helmet they will actually wear every day, which matters more than anything else on a spec sheet.

Best for: Style-first commuters · Riders leaving the bike locked outside regularly · Cruiser and step-through riders

NiteRider Lumina 1200 Boost Headlight

The Lumina 1200 Boost is for riders who go faster or ride darker places than a suburban bike path: it throws 1200 lumens in boost mode, has a lock mode so it will not turn on in a bag, and a sturdy bar strap mount. It is a popular light for eMTB and fat-tire riders who hit unlit trails, and for Class 3 commuters covering ground quickly. Runtime at full power is short, so you use boost as needed and cruise on medium. It is heavier and more expensive than the Cygolite Metro Plus. NiteRider has a long track record of durable housings.

Best for: Trail and unlit path riders · Faster Class 3 commutes · Riders who want boost on demand
