The Ultra-Lite2 is a packable jacket-and-pants set made of a non-woven material that is genuinely waterproof and cheap. It is the rain gear to stash in a pannier and forget until a storm catches you on the way home. It is not cut for cycling, so the jacket flaps and the pants can catch on a saddle, and the fabric tears if you snag it on a pedal or a rack. Breathability is poor, so on a warm day you sweat inside. None of that matters much when it is a surprise downpour and you are ten miles from home.

Showers Pass builds rain gear for people who commute year-round in Portland, which means it is overbuilt for Frisco but very welcome on the few weeks it matters. The Transit CC is a waterproof, breathable commuter jacket with a casual cut, reflective details, pit zips and a cut that works on an upright e-bike. Because e-bikes ride faster with less effort, you run cooler and get more wind chill, so a true waterproof shell makes more sense than on a regular bike. It is expensive and too warm for summer storms; in summer you get wet and dry off.
Best for: Year-round commuters · Cool, wet mornings · Riders who want a jacket that does not look like race kit

Moving reflectors catch a driver's eye better than static ones, which is why reflective ankle bands are one of the most effective cheap safety items you can buy. Salzmann's bands use 3M Scotchlite material, wrap with hook-and-loop, and double as pant-leg straps to keep trousers out of the chain. On an e-bike you may pedal less, but the bands still move and still mark you as a cyclist. They are light enough to live in a bag year-round. Buy a pair for each bike or commuter in the house; they are inexpensive enough.
Best for: Every commuter · Keeping pant legs clear of the chain · Adding motion reflectivity
